Senator Cory Booker, representing New Jersey, expressed his worries about the recent controversies surrounding Graham Platner, the likely Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate from Maine. Booker’s comments came during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.” He addressed the latest scandal involving Platner, who reportedly sent explicit messages to several women despite being married.
During the interview, host Jonathan Karl questioned Booker about whether these controversies could jeopardize Democratic aspirations to secure a Senate seat in Maine. Booker responded affirmatively, stating, “Yes, I have concerns. That guy has questions to answer, and that’s what campaigns are for.”
Booker shifted the conversation to his broader concerns regarding the Democratic Party’s ability to regain control of the Senate by 2026. He emphasized the importance of gaining the necessary votes to present a strong opposition to the current presidential administration.
Fox News Digital attempted to get a comment from Platner’s campaign regarding the situation. Platner’s campaign acknowledged text exchanges that came to light following a Wall Street Journal report. The report suggested that Platner’s wife, Amy Gertner, informed a campaign aide about the texts as part of an investigation into potential political liabilities.
In response to the viral story, Gertner released a video statement supporting her husband and his campaign. She criticized those focusing on scandals rather than important issues like healthcare, education, and childcare.
Platner has faced other controversies in the past, including a tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol that was later covered up. There have also been controversial past comments on Reddit where he minimized sexual assault and used crude language.
