Tom Steyer’s Ambitions to Solve California’s Housing Crisis

Tom Steyer aims to tackle California’s housing crisis as a gubernatorial candidate. His extensive real estate holdings have sparked interest and concern among voters.

Steyer is a billionaire known for his success in leading a San Francisco hedge fund. With his wealth, he acquired luxury properties across the state. His real estate portfolio features cliff-top mansions in San Francisco offering views of the Golden Gate Bridge, a classical residence from 1909 within a gated community, and a $2 million condo in a high-rise overlooking the City Hall dome. Additionally, Steyer owns a residence near the Pacific Ocean in Stinson Beach, Marin County.

About an hour south of San Francisco, in Pescadero, Steyer bought 11 parcels of land and transformed it into an 1,800-acre grass-fed cattle ranch called TomKat, a nod to himself and his wife, Kat Taylor. His real estate interests extend beyond California with properties on Lake Tahoe’s Nevada shore and New York City’s Fifth Avenue.

Campaign records indicate his assets may include more than a dozen homes. A family friend currently rents his apartment in the Four Seasons Residences downtown.
