Wyndham Clark Wins Second U.S. Open, Signals Return to Form

Wyndham Clark has rebounded impressively this year, securing his second U.S. Open title following a challenging 2025. His victory came on Sunday as he held off competitor Sam Burns in the final round.

In the initial rounds, Clark set a new 36-hole record at Shinnecock Hills with a score of 7-under 133. By the end of the third round, he maintained a strong lead, although the final round presented challenges. Clark’s advantage dwindled as Sam Burns closed the gap, though missed birdie putts by Burns on the last two holes allowed Clark to clinch the win. He completed his final round at 3-over-73, finishing the tournament at 4-under.

This victory marks a significant turnaround for Clark, who faced difficulties last year, including damaging lockers at Pennsylvania’s Oakmont Country Club. With his win, he became the ninth golfer to lead wire-to-wire in the U.S. Open, joining notable names like Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.

After his win, Clark addressed his previous behavior during an interview with Mike Tirico. He expressed remorse for his past actions and hopes to rebuild his relationship with fans, particularly those in New York, remarking, “New York didn’t really like me. I love you guys.” He acknowledged the challenges he faced last year and expressed hope to win over supporters with continued success.

Scottie Scheffler, who was second on the leaderboard, celebrated his 30th birthday on the same day. Many spectators rooted for him, providing additional motivation beyond Clark’s previous conduct at Oakmont. Despite the pro-Scheffler sentiment, Clark maintained composure and successfully resisted Burns’ efforts to overtake him on the leaderboard.

Clark had not secured any wins last year, which was affected by his locker room outburst and subsequent ban from the club. This year has been different, with victories in two tournaments, including The CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Clark’s recent achievements signal a major positive shift. His performance, coupled with a public apology supporting Scheffler, reflects progress in his career. With his second major win now secured, Clark appears on a promising trajectory.
