“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg addressed her audience on Tuesday, responding to claims that President Donald Trump’s attendance caused the Knicks’ loss in their recent game. On Monday night, the New York Knicks played their first NBA Finals game since 1999 against the San Antonio Spurs, having previously won two games on the road. Trump’s presence was linked to the loss by some fans, but Goldberg dismissed these claims.
Goldberg pointed out the practical reasons for the Knicks’ performance, stating that the team’s play was not at its best that night. She emphasized, “They were not playing great ball. That was on us.” She argued that blaming Trump was misguided, as he had no control over the game’s outcome.
Goldberg also mentioned the complications Trump’s visit caused in the city, highlighting heightened security measures that affected traffic. She remarked on how fans attributed the end of the winning streak to Trump, but she corrected this misconception by reinforcing the team’s responsibility for its performance.
Co-host Sunny Hostin added a contrasting view, suggesting that Trump brought negative energy to the game. Hostin expressed concerns over the costs associated with securing the arena and Trumps’ reception by the crowd, urging him to avoid bringing “bad karma” to the city.
Meanwhile, co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin acknowledged the challenges of a president attending a game during a critical winning streak, suggesting that blame for any loss would naturally fall on such figures. Nevertheless, she acknowledged Trump’s loyalty to the Knicks as a long-term fan.
In a related note, Goldberg affirmed that any Knicks fan has the right to attend games, regardless of personal feelings towards them. She emphasized the shared identity as fans, stating, “You earned the right as a Knicks fan. I don’t have to like you.”
