White House Plans to Partially Reopen Lafayette Square

The White House intends to reopen part of Lafayette Square, a public park located across from the White House. This move comes eight months after former President Donald Trump’s administration closed the park for renovations.

On Monday, workers began removing sections of temporary fencing along H Street NW that had been in place since January. However, a significant part of the park is still surrounded by fences as of Monday afternoon.

Officials are continuing to work on plans to establish a permanent fence around the park. These developments are part of ongoing efforts to enhance security while maintaining public access to this historic space.

The decision to reopen the park partially highlights ongoing discussions about balancing security measures with public access to important areas near the White House.
