Starting on September 2, 2026, the U.S. Mint will begin selling gold-colored $1 coins featuring President Donald Trump’s likeness. Sales start at noon ET and the price ranges from about $1.55 to $2.44 per coin.
These coins were initially announced in July and are designed to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary. The obverse side displays Mr. Trump’s face along with the inscriptions “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “1776 ~ 2026.” On the reverse side, the presidential seal appears, which features an eagle holding an olive branch and arrows, alongside the inscription “250” marking the semiquincentennial anniversary.
The cost varies depending on quantity. A roll containing 25 coins is priced at $61, while a bag holding 100 coins costs $154.50. The $1 Trump coins are available for purchase starting September 2.
U.S. regulations typically dictate that only deceased individuals may appear on currency. However, a 2020 law allows for new designs to commemorate special anniversaries such as the country’s 250th, which provides the legal framework for President Trump’s appearance on these coins.
The U.S. Mint states these coins can be used as legal tender, although they are also proposed as collectibles. They are described as combining everyday American coinage with a unique anniversary design meant to attract collectors.
Despite their gold appearance, the coins contain no actual gold. They are made primarily of copper, with 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, and 2% nickel. Additionally, the U.S. Mint will randomly include 250,000 coins with a special “July 4th” privy mark in the bags and rolls sold via their website.
