Trump Announces Ceasefire Agreement Between Israel and Hezbollah

President Donald Trump announced that he held discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and representatives from Hezbollah. Both parties have agreed to cease hostilities.

President Trump shared on Truth Social that he urged Netanyahu against conducting a major raid in Beirut, Lebanon. He thanked Netanyahu for redirecting his troops. Trump also communicated with Hezbollah leaders, who agreed to stop attacking Israel and its forces. In response, Israel agreed to cease its attacks.

Trump expressed hope for a lasting peace, stating, “Let’s see how long that lasts. Hopefully, it will be for eternity.”

The Lebanese Presidency posted on their X account that the agreement would prevent Israel from targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs. In return, Hezbollah would refrain from attacking Israel. The post mentioned a “ceasefire framework” would be extended to include all Lebanese areas.

Meetings are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss progress and build on the agreement. Since mid-April, the parties have been under a ceasefire, according to the Associated Press.

This agreement takes place amidst ongoing U.S. negotiations with Iran for a broader deal. Further updates will provide additional information as the situation develops.
