Trump Advocates Renaming AI as ‘Super Intelligence’

President Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly, proposing to rebrand artificial intelligence as ‘super intelligence’ in U.S. documents. He stated that the term ‘artificial’ makes intelligence sound fake and emphasized the amazing potential of the technology. Trump mentioned that ‘super intelligence’ is a more accurate term and urged global adoption. He believes this change reflects the true nature of AI.

Superintelligence, in existing definitions, refers to AI surpassing human intelligence. It is a goal for many AI companies and a concern for skeptics wary of its potential threats. Trump’s remarks come during heightened worries about AI after a warning from a former Anthropic researcher about its risks to humanity.

Meanwhile, bipartisan senators are urging Attorney General Todd Blanche for guidance on the use of automated license plate readers, addressing the growing backlash against the technology. Additionally, Melania Trump announced the ‘Fostering the Future Together’ initiative, aimed at empowering children through technology and education.

A group of Senate Democrats criticized Trump’s failure to prevent China from accessing American AI technology as the Chinese leader prepares for a visit to Washington. They called for closing loopholes that allow China to bypass U.S. export restrictions.

In Trump’s UN speech, he issued a stern warning to Iran, pressing for peace negotiations or facing severe consequences. His administration’s actions, he argued, aim to tackle global conflicts impacting energy exports.

A Reuters/Ipsos survey highlighted public concern over AI companies’ efforts to mitigate risks, with 73 percent of respondents feeling insufficient safeguards are in place.
