DOJ’s Response
The Department of Justice denies these allegations, stating that some requested materials cannot be released due to court orders protecting victim identities. The DOJ says, “Federal court orders prohibit the disclosure of victim-identifying information, and New Mexico has not provided a legal basis to justify such disclosures.” The department remains willing to assist New Mexico’s investigation within legal boundaries.
Lawsuit Details
New Mexico’s lawsuit seeks a court order for the DOJ to release unredacted records related to Epstein and Zorro Ranch. State officials believe access to these materials can help identify additional victims, witnesses, and possible criminal conduct.
The complaint indicates New Mexico prosecutors have requested the information several times but faced challenges. Torrez’s office states federal officials agreed in 2019 to cooperate with New Mexico investigators after the federal investigation ended, but cooperation was insufficient.

“New Mexico must protect survivors and investigate crimes in our state. We asked the DOJ to provide records critical to identifying victims, witnesses, and criminal conduct at Zorro Ranch. Delays are hurting our investigation and delaying justice,” says Torrez.

Raúl Torrez is the top state official revisiting allegations connected to Epstein’s ranch. Since taking office in 2023, he has urged for scrutiny of potential crimes there and argued that New Mexico was overlooked during prior federal probes. Zorro Ranch was Epstein’s New Mexico base for more than 20 years. Purchased in 1993, the approximately 10,000-acre property featured a large mansion, private runway, and ranch land, becoming one of many high-profile properties owned by Epstein.

Blanche’s nomination cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee on a party-line vote, overcoming a significant procedural step. Yet, his confirmation is closely monitored as Republican concerns persist on issues like DOJ policies and Epstein records.
