A Texas father, Jeff Metcalf, has shared the devastating impact of his son’s untimely death. His 17-year-old son, Austin Metcalf, was fatally stabbed during a high school track meet. Austin, a junior at Memorial High School in Frisco, was allegedly attacked by Karmelo Anthony, a student from another school.
The incident reportedly started over a seating dispute while the teams waited for the delayed competition. Jeff Metcalf expressed his grief on Fox News, stating, “My son is gone, and he’ll never come home again. Austin was the light of my life.”
“Austin died in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter, who tried desperately to stop the bleeding but couldn’t save him.”
Hunter and Austin shared a strong bond, being described as best friends by their father. Jeff Metcalf now focuses on supporting Hunter through the tragedy.
While mourning their loss, the Metcalf family urges the public to avoid speculation about racial or political motives behind the stabbing. Jeff Metcalf clarified on “America Reports” that the incident wasn’t related to race or politics. He said, “Do not politicize this… this is a human being thing.”
Austin was known as an honor student, athlete, and compassionate young man with ambitions of playing college football. His social media profile highlighted his 3.97 GPA and football camp participation. Jeff Metcalf remarked, “He lit up the room everywhere he went.”
A vigil was held in Austin’s honor, attended by hundreds at the family’s church. Jeff Metcalf stated that his faith helps him cope with the loss, saying, “I rely heavily on my faith to get me through this.” Despite the pain, he has chosen to forgive. “People ask me, how can you forgive this other person? I said I forgive the other person because the forgiveness is not for him. The forgiveness is for me so I can have peace,” he explained.
Jeff Metcalf recalled spending time hunting with his sons the weekend before Austin’s death, leaving him with one last cherished memory. The suspect from Frisco Centennial High School has been arrested and charged with murder.
