Tragic Boating Accident in New Jersey
A serious boating accident occurred in Barnegat Bay, New Jersey. Kevin Wells, 40, of Warren, New Jersey, faces felony charges after a late-night crash that resulted in the death of a 26-year-old passenger. New Jersey State Police arrested Wells and charged him with vehicular homicide and multiple counts of assault by vessel while intoxicated.
Details of the Incident
The crash took place on July 25 along the Intracoastal Waterway in Toms River Township. Wells operated a 32-foot Boston Whaler, which hit a channel marker. After the collision, he managed to bring the damaged vessel to a residence where emergency services assisted the victims.

Victims of the Collision
Michael T. Bereheiko, 26, was rushed to a hospital but later died. Two other passengers, Steven Pochick and Nicholas Cherasaro, both 27, sustained serious injuries. A fourth passenger, Sarah Stulh, 24, received minor injuries.
Bereheiko, a 2017 graduate of Watchung Hills Regional High School, was known as “Bear” by his teammates. He attended Lincoln Tech and worked for Schifano Construction Corporation.
Continuing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Following his arrest, Wells was held in Ocean County Jail without bail. State police continue to investigate the crash.
Other Fatal Boating Incidents
Jennifer L. Pearson, 59, faces charges related to a separate incident in August. Allegedly intoxicated, Pearson operated a boat that killed her son in a Memorial Day crash. She is charged with multiple offenses, including operating a vessel under the influence and reckless operation.
A third tragedy involved Stephen Schneider, 64, in a July 19 boating collision. Schneider, accused of being intoxicated, faces charges after two children lost their lives in the accident near Berkeley Township.
