Taylor Sheridan’s Ranch Purchase Alters Retirement Plans

Taylor Sheridan’s Ranch Purchase Alters Retirement Plans

Taylor Sheridan had plans to retire but changed those plans after purchasing a second ranch in Texas. The writer and director discussed his decision on the “Rodeo Time” podcast. At 56, he bought the Four Sixes Ranch for $330 million, stopping his retirement and leading him to sign an exclusivity deal with Paramount.

“I was set up to retire. I was going to be done after ‘Yellowstone,'” Sheridan explained. He had already bought the ranch in Weatherford outright and was ready for a life of leisure. However, this new purchase meant he could not quit his day job for a while.

Before committing to buying the ranch, Sheridan ensured the general manager would remain and his son would take on future responsibilities. After acquiring Four Sixes Ranch, his retirement plans after “Yellowstone” shifted significantly.

The ranch served as the setting for some episodes in Season 4 of “Yellowstone.” Sheridan first encountered Anne Marion, the then-owner, during filming arrangements. After her death, it became known the ranch would be sold and divided unless someone maintained her vision, choosing Sheridan for the responsibility.

“Well, boys, I’m a little short. I don’t have, in fact, I’m about 300 million short,”

he humorously recalled when faced with the ranch’s $330 million price tag. Paramount, keen on securing Sheridan, had long sought an exclusive deal with him. After considering the purchase, Sheridan agreed to their proposal.

He led a group of investors to complete the sale, which closed on January 21, 2022. Since agreeing to Paramount’s terms, Sheridan has created several shows, including “Mayor of Kingstown,” “1883,” “1923,” “Lioness,” “Landman,” “Tulsa King,” and “The Madison.”

Michael Kelly, a star in “Lioness,” praised Sheridan’s storytelling abilities, saying, “Anything you ever want me to do, I’ll do. I love being in Texas. I love saying your words. He’s fricking brilliant, man.”
