A video captured a tense standoff in which a SWAT team rammed its vehicle into a tractor during a confrontation with a suspect near an Oregon home. The suspect, Erik Gordon Shunn, 53, allegedly undertook a shooting spree targeting tree workers south of Portland, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO). Authorities reported that Shunn fired over 200 rounds during the event.
Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office drone footage showed Shunn allegedly firing directly at the aircraft. He was later spotted driving a compact tractor near his home when a SWAT vehicle collided with it, trapping the tractor against the house. Multiple SWAT officers quickly moved in to capture him.
Clackamas County SWAT Team responded to reports of an armed individual shooting at arborists tasked with removing trees in a rural area. A 911 call suggested Shunn possessed several firearms, with witnesses estimating he fired about 20 shots at the workers.
Upon arrival, authorities used drones to locate Shunn in his driveway. He was reportedly using a tractor to knock down trees, seemingly to form a barricade.
Officials decided to immobilize Shunn’s tractor when he became separated from his rifle while driving near his house. SWAT personnel deemed this maneuver presented the best chance to safely detain Shunn.
Shunn received medical attention at the scene before being transported to a local hospital for evaluation. First responders ensured the safety of neighbors and tree workers, confirming their security and facilitating their evacuation. The CCSO stated no injuries occurred, and Shunn’s mother, present during the standoff, was unharmed.
Shunn faces multiple charges, including second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, recklessly endangering others, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, unlawful possession of firearms, and interfering with an officer.
