Successful Electronics Recycling Event in Aurora

Darla Hale from Aurora found an effective solution for disposing of her old computer at the Electronics Recycling Drive-Thru event held on Saturday morning. Organized by Aurora’s Property Standards Division, the event provided a convenient and free service for local residents at the Route 59 Metra station.

“This is the first time I’ve used this service. It’s local and very helpful,” Hale said as she left with satisfaction, promising to return for future collections.

Over four hours, workers efficiently unloaded cars filled with electronics such as televisions, computers, printers, and cables. Household items like electric toothbrushes, fryers, hair dryers, and holiday lights were also accepted.

Aurora Director of Property Standards, Josh Alcaraz, emphasized the event’s popularity. “We appreciate being able to provide this service to the community,” he stated in a press release. “We look forward to helping residents safely dispose of older electronics, sustaining our environment.”

Jon Zaghloul, Aurora’s Director of Communications, highlighted the event’s impact. “Every year, it draws over 2,000 vehicles,” he noted. An app facilitates sign-ups, once again trending towards that number. “It’s a safe, efficient, and convenient recycling method promoting sustainability.”

Zaghloul praised the broad range of items accepted. “The variety makes the event popular,” he said. “The number of items we take is impressive.”

A Team Recyclers managed collection services, directed by Supervisor James Larkin. “Our process is regulated, with block scheduling to maintain flow,” he explained. “Post-event, materials are sorted for shredding or dismantling, totaling about 100,000 to 120,000 pounds.”

Aurora resident Bob Vanslobig aimed to declutter by recycling cords and old electronics. “Perfect timing as I’m kicking off my house-cleaning,” he remarked, appreciating responsible recycling.

James Clemons finally disposed of two televisions held for five years. “Glad to have a place for them,” he mentioned.

Meanwhile, Gary Pennington brought a vacuum cleaner and other items. “Great way to de-junk the house,” he stated.
