Nearly 1,200 students from Adlai E. Stevenson High School celebrated their graduation on May 22 at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates. The ceremony marked the achievements of the Class of 2026, known for their philanthropic efforts, as highlighted by Superintendent Eric Twadell of District 125 in Lincolnshire.
During the commencement, students were commended for raising over $100,000 for various causes over their four years at the school. Twadell acknowledged their growth and generosity, emphasizing the graduates’ embodiment of the school’s values both in skill and spirit.
Two seniors delivered speeches at the event. Nisa Rao of Riverwoods addressed her peers, recognizing the community spirit at Stevenson High. “There was a constant in our school, the selfless individuals that contribute to our community. Thank you all for being a part of my community,” she said.
In the Gubernator Address, Sanchi Deshpande of Lincolnshire urged graduates to cherish their journeys. “We, Patriots, do not skip to the ending. We live the journey because if we knew the ending, it wouldn’t be worth a watch,” Deshpande advised.
The ceremony was a proud moment for families. Joie Goldstein from Buffalo Grove shared the sense of privilege associated with being a Patriot, while Karthik Pushparaj from Buffalo Grove expressed heartfelt wishes for his son, Aditya. “I wish he does very well in his studies and life in general,” Karthik said.
In the audience, Jam and Maru Torres from Prairie View held a poster for their daughter, Abigail “Aye Jay” Julianne Torres. “I’m so, so proud of her,” Jam expressed, calling Aye Jay one of the best things in his life. Abigail, grateful for her family, thanked her parents for their sacrifices and her relatives for their support.
The ceremony concluded with the traditional tossing of mortarboard caps, celebrating the accomplishments and future potential of the Stevenson High School graduates. Freelancer Karie Angell Luc reported on the event for Pioneer Press.
