The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced that an ongoing outbreak of salmonella has spread to 27 states. The outbreak is linked to jalapeños served at Chipotle restaurants.
These jalapeños were distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors in California after being imported from Mexico. They were available at Chipotle, Qdoba, and other various restaurants.
So far, 36 people have been hospitalized, and there have been no reported deaths. In response, Chipotle removed jalapeños from its menu as a precaution. Qdoba took a similar measure, removing jalapeños from all its eateries.
The CDC confirmed that neither restaurant chain poses a continuing risk since the implicated jalapeños are no longer served.
