Rep. Thomas Massie from Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District recently lost the Republican primary to Ed Gallrein, a challenger backed by President Donald Trump. Despite the defeat, Massie is contemplating future political opportunities.
In a statement, Massie mentioned filing with the Federal Election Commission for the 2028 House race. He aims to maintain his political operations both as a current officeholder and as a potential candidate for federal office. “I haven’t made a final decision about which office to seek, if I run,” he stated in a social media post.
Massie, known for his views on various issues, addressed supporters after his concession speech on May 19, 2026, in Hebron, Kentucky. He previously indicated at an event for the University of Louisville College Republicans, “If I lose on May 19, I am not doing any more government ever.” However, he later conveyed to Fox News Digital his intent to keep his options open and continue his political efforts. He emphasized, “There’s still an undisclosed paid social media campaign to rewrite history and diminish the platform the Epstein class gave me when they spent tens of millions of dollars to buy the seat.”
Massie’s loss to Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL, marked the end of his congressional service since 2012. Gallrein secured a decisive victory, leading to discussions about the future direction of the GOP. Massie’s response to his defeat included, “There’s a quiet all-out war for the future of our country. Let us not misdirect our precious resources. I do not believe I lost due to fraudulent votes, mail-in ballots, hacking, or mistabulated results. I respect those who want to make sure, but I won’t be requesting a recount.”
In response to a question about a potential 2028 presidential run on “Meet the Press,” Massie said he remains open to various possibilities. “I will not rule out anything. And right now I’m not gonna rule in anything,” he noted, emphasizing his ongoing engagement with political issues and Washington D.C. affairs.
