Progress in US-Iran Peace Talks

The first overnight session of renewed talks between the United States and Iran aimed at turning a temporary truce into a permanent peace agreement concluded in Switzerland.

Mediators from Pakistan and Qatar reported on Monday that Vice President JD Vance and Iranian representatives had made progress toward finalizing a peace pact within 60 days. Swiss authorities described the talks as positive.

Despite the constructive atmosphere, challenges remain. Discussions over the next two months might face obstacles, and efforts to finalize a deal could experience disruptions.

The Iranian team, led by the Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, temporarily left the negotiations on Sunday. This happened in response to a social media statement by President Trump threatening renewed American military actions if an agreement was not reached. They later rejoined the talks.

Important topics emerged at the Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne, dominating discussions yet remaining unresolved.
