Golf legend Phil Mickelson is no longer a member of The Farms Golf Club in Southern California following allegations of inappropriate behavior with a staff member, as reported by Golf Digest.
Mickelson, age 55, has practiced at the club for decades but now faces accusations of making “nonconsensual and inappropriate physical contact” with a female employee at the clubhouse this spring. The employee rejected Mickelson’s advances and reported the incident to her supervisors.
The club, located in Rancho Santa Fe, approximately 25 miles northeast of San Diego, reportedly asked Mickelson to leave after confronting him on the course. The Farms Golf Club confirmed the situation, stating, “This individual is no longer a member,” without naming Mickelson.
A club statement provided to NBC News indicated that they supported the staff member, conducted an independent investigation, and took decisive action as a result of the report.
Mickelson’s representation did not comment on NBC News’ inquiries. However, an attorney representing Mickelson denied the allegations to Golf Digest, stating they were “squarely contradicted by objective, video evidence.” Tom Clare, Mickelson’s attorney, cited “a great deal of misinformation circulating” and stressed Mickelson’s focus on a private family health matter.
The spokesperson for Mickelson clarified that any misunderstandings had been resolved, and Mickelson continues to handle his family situation, which has delayed his return to professional golf.
In April, Mickelson announced a hiatus from competition to address this ongoing family health issue.
Mickelson, married and a father of three, is a six-time major champion. His career has faced controversy, particularly regarding his involvement with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series.
