Perez Hilton’s Mental Health Crisis and Personal Reflection

Law enforcement responded to Perez Hilton’s Miami home following concerns during a TikTok livestream in which he appeared to be harming himself. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office received calls about the incident and quickly arrived at his residence, confirming he was alone inside.

“In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication. Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury to the individual, deputies, and the public.” – Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office

Deputies are monitoring the situation while supporting Hilton’s family. According to a source, Hilton is under a psychiatric hold under the Florida Baker Act with superficial cuts. The Baker Act allows involuntary mental health evaluations when specific criteria are met, which can last up to 72 hours.

Earlier this year, Hilton was hospitalized for a severe health issue involving sepsis. He has since moved to Miami with his mother and children and has spoken about how becoming a parent has shifted his life priorities. Born Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., Hilton became well-known in the 2000s through his celebrity gossip website.

Earlier this year, Hilton shared a personal story of hospitalization due to sepsis, which he attributed to an ulcer caused by medication taken on an empty stomach. During a 21-day hospital stay, Hilton underwent surgery due to a stomach perforation. In a video during this time, he spoke of having a miraculous encounter with God, which he described as life-changing.

In a follow-up video, Hilton expressed regret for past actions and mentioned returning to reading the Bible. He acknowledged the public nature of his mistakes and expressed a desire to make amends both publicly and privately.

“I’ve been crying, but happy tears. Happy tears. Because this is just, this is just so crazy. I’ve been reading the Bible, and so much of what is said here I had already been thinking of. It’s just overwhelming in the best, most beautiful way,” Hilton shared. He admitted his past focus on views and attention led to public dislike, but his recent experiences have brought more support.

“What matters is today. How I behave today, how I behave tomorrow,” Hilton continued, expressing gratitude for a new opportunity to improve and evolve.
