Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, became involved in a hit-and-run accident in California. The incident, which occurred in Yountville within wine country, caused significant damage to a parked car. Authorities announced this on Saturday, noting Pelosi may face misdemeanor charges.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office reported that Pelosi was driving a brown convertible on Friday when he hit a legally parked car. After briefly stopping, he drove away. No injuries resulted from the accident. A witness who saw the event called 911.
Deputies later found Pelosi approximately a quarter of a mile from the scene with noticeable damage to the front of his vehicle. Pelosi stated he realized he hit something, but was unsure what or when the contact occurred. A test confirmed no alcohol in his system.
Due to his age, the sheriff’s office recommended a DMV evaluation to determine if Pelosi should continue driving. This step is standard for older drivers. In this case, since no injuries occurred, a misdemeanor charge for leaving the scene was advised. Pelosi wasn’t arrested.
Representatives for Nancy Pelosi did not reply immediately to requests for comments via email.
In 2022, Paul Pelosi pled guilty to misdemeanor DUI charges in Napa County. The court sentenced him to five days in jail and three years of probation. Although he only served two days, he received credit for good conduct and completed another day in a work program.
During probation, he attended a drinking driver class for three months and installed an ignition interlock device. This device required a breath test to prevent impaired driving. Additionally, he paid roughly $5,000 for victim restitution and fines of nearly $2,000.
In the same year, Paul Pelosi survived a violent hammer attack at his home in San Francisco.
