Bill Hemmer, anchor of ‘America’s Newsroom,’ discusses the 2026 midterm power rankings with Karl Rove. Rove identifies four key Senate toss-up races in Alaska, Iowa, Maine, and Ohio. Additionally, he evaluates 16 House toss-up seats and highlights the significant Michigan Democratic primary on August 4. The primary features progressive Abdul El-Sayed versus establishment candidate Haley Stevens.
In Wyoming, Chuck Gray, the current Secretary of State, secured the Republican nomination for the state’s at-large U.S. House seat. Gray, a Trump-aligned conservative, emerged from a competitive primary. He will replace Rep. Harriet Hageman, who seeks a Senate position. The primary field included competitors like businessman Steve Friess and Reid Rasner.
“Wyoming’s election chief is confronting efforts to remove Trump from the ballot, termed a ‘radical left’ initiative.”
Rep. Harriet Hageman is leaving her House seat to run for the U.S. Senate. She was first elected in 2022 after defeating former Rep. Liz Cheney in a major Republican primary. Hageman aims to fill the seat that retiring Sen. Cynthia Lummis is vacating. In Wyoming, it is unprecedented to have simultaneous open races for the governorship, Senate, and House seat.
The open House seat prompted a surge of Republican candidates, making it the most costly primary race in Wyoming. Notably, neither Trump nor Hageman endorsed any candidates in this primary. This contrasts with other Wyoming races, where Trump supported Hageman for Senate and state Superintendent Megan Degenfelder for governor.
The Republican nominee for Wyoming’s House seat is expected to win easily in November. Wyoming is a deeply Republican state, with Trump having secured it by a significant 46-point margin in 2024. In the last 30 years, only one Democrat has won statewide office in Wyoming. Republicans dominate every statewide elected office and have large majorities in the state Legislature.
