As of July 29, 2026, Elizabeth Waddell, a North Carolina woman, remains missing after disappearing last week during a visit to Grenada. Her husband, Cailen Waddell, stated he doesn’t suspect foul play in her disappearance.
Cailen Waddell emphasized the importance of tracing his wife’s activities in the hours before her disappearance. He stated, “No detail is too small,” in reference to the ongoing investigation. Elizabeth Waddell was last spotted on security footage around noon on July 22, swimming near Grand Anse Beach, according to the Royal Grenada Police Force. Witnesses reported interacting with her around 5:30 p.m. further from the shore that evening.
Cailen explained that, after consulting with family, local authorities, and the U.S. Embassy, he believes foul play wasn’t involved in her disappearance. Elizabeth was reportedly swimming far from the shore, confident in her location and the island’s beauty.
The 44-year-old mother was in Grenada on a three-week vacation with her friend Heather at the time of her disappearance. Waddell had left the Airbnb she shared with Heather. After being gone for hours, Heather searched for Elizabeth and found only her towel.
A friend, Amanda Romano-Harmon, mentioned surveillance footage showing Elizabeth “floating” and “swimming” before she drifted out of camera view. The video captured Elizabeth walking towards a beachside pier around 11:30 a.m. She entered the water and swam beneath the pier shortly after noon. Her friend later approached the pier but returned alone.
Cailen Waddell described Elizabeth as a “loving free-spirited person” with a talent for making friends easily. Authorities urge anyone with information about Elizabeth Waddell’s whereabouts to contact them immediately. The U.S. State Department is aware of the ongoing situation.
