The New York Knicks have reached the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999. With aspirations of winning their first championship since 1973, the team is riding high with an impressive 11-game playoff winning streak.
Fans are enthusiastic about the Knicks’ return and are confident in their ability to secure the coveted Larry O’Brien Trophy. They will compete against the San Antonio Spurs, a young team that battled through seven games to defeat the reigning champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
This could give the veteran Knicks squad a strategic edge, and many supporters believe their playoff run demonstrates that they are the superior team. Despite this optimism, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green urges caution. He argues that the Knicks’ journey to the Finals is not yet an accomplishment.
“I double down on this! Just like Becky Hammon said, prove me wrong. Prove me wrong,” Green asserted on “The Draymond Green Show.”
Green highlighted that navigating through the Eastern Conference is not necessarily a guaranteed path to championship victory.
He explained, “Getting out of the East has never been a surefire way to winning a championship.”
Green also expressed support for Mike Brown.
The Knicks’ path to the Finals began with overtaking the Atlanta Hawks 4-2, displaying several dominant performances. Subsequently, they swept the Philadelphia 76ers and eliminated the Cleveland Cavaliers. Critics note that these achievements came against teams that were not top-seeded contenders; importantly, they avoided facing the No. 2 seed Boston Celtics due to Jayson Tatum’s absence in Game 7 against the 76ers.
The narrative suggests the Knicks bypassed playing either of the top conference seeds. Nevertheless, their momentum and confidence are strong as they prepare for a series against the Spurs. Despite their youth, the Spurs managed to push the Oklahoma City Thunder to seven games.
The NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs will commence at 8:40 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 3.
