Multiple Injuries in West Garfield Park Shootings

In West Garfield Park, Chicago, two shooting incidents on the same block injured seven people early Sunday, according to police reports. A significant number of those injured were teenagers.

Chicago police reported that at approximately 1:25 a.m., a 17-year-old girl sustained a gunshot wound to the chest in the 3800 block of W. Maypole Ave. She was rushed to Stroger Hospital and remains in critical condition.

Approximately ten minutes after the first incident, six other individuals were shot in the same location. The group, mainly comprising teenagers, was standing outside when gunshots were fired at about 1:34 a.m. The victims included two 17-year-old boys, an 18-year-old woman, an 18-year-old man, a 19-year-old man, and a 20-year-old man. They are all reported to be in good condition at Stroger and Mt. Sinai hospitals.

In a separate incident around 1:48 a.m., a 33-year-old man was discovered with gunshot injuries in the 4300 block of W. Van Buren St., roughly a mile away from the earlier shootings. He was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have stated that Area Four Detectives are conducting an investigation into the incidents.
