Mobile Clinic for Mental and Maternal Health Unveiled in South Suburbs

Initiative by The Link and Option Center

The Link and Option Center’s Twin Green unveiled a mobile clinic to serve people in need across the south suburbs. Her vision, after four years of advocating for public funding, led her to independently raise $600,000 through personal efforts and private donations.

Services Offered

The clinic, called Carry, will provide up to 2,000 mental health screenings and 300 to 500 maternal health visits annually. It will rotate through high-need areas like Harvey and Dolton four days a week, collaborating with municipalities and healthcare centers.

Services include prenatal screenings, mental health assessments, postpartum depression checks, addiction support, and more, accessible to people regardless of insurance. A mobile crisis response van will offer immediate support.

Community Impact

Green’s experience in the community, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, fueled her commitment to turning high-effort visits into easy access care. She believes reaching out to those hesitant to visit traditional facilities is crucial.

Support From Officials

State and local officials voiced their support. State Rep. Debbie Meyers-Martin, Sen. Michael Hastings, and Commissioner Donna Miller emphasized the need for continued funding and more Black healthcare professionals, noting less than 6% of U.S. doctors identify as Black.

Future Efforts

Miller vowed to continue advocating for federal funding to meet community mental health needs. The Link and Option Center’s work underscores the importance of accessible healthcare.
