Michael J. Fox received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 2026 Emmys for his work supporting Parkinson’s disease research through his advocacy and philanthropy. This award, presented by the Television Academy and the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, honors a television industry figure whose philanthropic efforts have significantly impacted society since its establishment in 2002.
Fox attended the ceremony with his wife, Tracy Pollan, marking their first Emmy Awards appearance in 13 years. The event took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 14, 2026. Fox was met with a standing ovation as he accepted the award and discussed his journey with Parkinson’s disease.
“Initially, I kept my Parkinson’s diagnosis a secret. I worried that it would affect my work and my relationship with audiences,” Fox said. He added, “The support from all of you was so uplifting. It made me feel like I could keep doing this.”
Diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson’s disease at age 29 in 1991, Fox publicly disclosed his condition in 1998. During his Emmy Awards speech, he mentioned his foundation’s progress toward finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease. The announcement of his recognition prompted reactions across the internet.
One user on social media platform X commented, “Michael J. Fox ❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏We can all learn so much from him…🙏🏻👍”. Another added, “I really do think we underestimate how much Michael J Fox really put Parkinson’s ‘on the map’. I knew about it as a little kid because of him and his advocacy.” A third user praised him saying, “Michael J. Fox is an inspiration. The guy got dealt an awful hand.”
