On Friday morning, a man tragically lost his life while trying to save a dog at Shasta Lake in Northern California. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as Geordan White, a 60-year-old resident of Redding.
White was part of a boating excursion when the dog leapt overboard. He immediately jumped into the water to rescue the animal. Unfortunately, White experienced an ‘unknown emergency’ shortly after entering the water, according to authorities.
A witness reported the incident as a potential drowning. This individual managed to save the dog but noted that White was unable to grasp a flotation device that was thrown to him. White disappeared beneath the water near the Bailey Cove boat launch area.
Later that afternoon, a dive team recovered White’s body. The sheriff’s office announced plans to carry out an autopsy to determine the cause of his emergency.
The sheriff’s office expressed condolences to White’s family. They emphasized the importance of wearing flotation devices when boating.
