A British man faces serious charges for allegedly placing a 3-year-old boy into a crocodile enclosure. The incident occurred at Johnsons of Old Hurst, a zoo and farm in Huntingdon, England. The child suffered critical injuries and the suspect and the boy reportedly were not acquainted.
Authorities have arrested the man, who remains unidentified. On Friday, he was released on bail with a pending trial date set for September 30. According to Cambridgeshire police, the suspect has been deemed unfit for an interview.
The young boy sustained a broken arm and pelvis from the incident. He is currently in stable condition thanks to a daring rescue by Tracey Johnson, the owner’s wife. A local praised her bravery, noting that Johnson put herself at great risk to save the child.
“I know Tracey very well and she’s a lovely lady and it’s nothing more than I’d expect from her,” said an acquaintance. “She is extraordinary and very brave,”
The zoo owners have closed the tropical house temporarily. They expressed sympathy for the boy and his family in a social media post. Johnsons of Old Hurst, situated north of London, remains under scrutiny despite having appropriate safety measures in place.
Huntingdonshire district councillor Charlotte Lowe expressed disbelief over the incident, citing the zoo’s comprehensive safety protocols as described by The Guardian. The police investigation is ongoing, and further information is awaited.
