Former Disney actress Maitland Ward has expressed her dissatisfaction with Sydney Sweeney’s portrayal of an OnlyFans model in the third season of “Euphoria.” In an interview with TMZ, the 49-year-old, known for her past role in “Boy Meets World” and her current work in adult films and on OnlyFans, criticized scenes involving Sweeney’s character, Cassie. These scenes depict Cassie in pacifiers, pigtails, and sheer clothing, which Ward finds inappropriate.
“There’s all sorts of stuff that you can’t do,” Ward stated. “The whole child-baby thing is so disgusting.” She emphasized that the way these scenes are handled is “gross” and “vile.”
Ward noted that such portrayals contravene OnlyFans guidelines meant to prevent pedophilia-related content. Breaking these rules can result in being kicked off the platform. She explained that OnlyFans has measures in place to prevent inappropriate associations with underage themes.
The third season of “Euphoria” showcases Cassie using OnlyFans initially to afford her wedding and later as a source of income after realizing her husband Nate, played by Jacob Elordi, is financially troubled. The episodes depict Cassie engaging in bizarre acts for her subscribers, including dressing as a child and dog, using a sex toy, mailing underwear, and other provocative actions.
Maitland Ward argued that “Euphoria” mocks OnlyFans creators rather than appreciating their efforts. “It’s saying how weird and creepy they are,” she asserted. Ward believes that the series misrepresents sex workers as sideshow attractions, undermining the work and dignity of many individuals in the industry.
Ward further added that such portrayals reinforce damaging stereotypes about sex workers, portraying sex work as a ‘circus act’ and depicting the industry contemptuously. These portrayals, according to her, are disconnected from reality and perpetuate harmful myths, which sex workers constantly struggle against.
Ward, navigating her own transition from child actress to adult film star, reflected on her experiences in Hollywood. She shared insights regarding her early career, expressing feelings of being treated more like a product rather than a person. Later in her career, she found more respect after entering the adult film industry.
Through her current perspective, Ward conveys broader criticism towards Hollywood’s portrayal and treatment of young actors. She sees her journey as offering more respect and positivity than anticipated when she made the shift to adult entertainment.
