Lionel Richie extended his thanks to fans for their support following a health issue on stage that led to the cancellation of several concerts. The 77-year-old artist shared images of himself smiling and dancing on stage in an Instagram post over the weekend.
“Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love,” he wrote. “I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.”
Richie was back on stage after experiencing a health scare last month. He performed in Pittsburgh and Detroit, expressing that these events were filled with joy and energy. Richie remarked, “See you in Toronto… let’s party all night long!”
Almost a week prior, Richie had a different experience. He had to postpone shows after feeling “dizzy” during his tour’s opening night in Minnesota. The United Center announced that his scheduled concerts in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, would not occur as doctors advised him to rest.
“Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows,” an Instagram post detailed. “Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans.”
A public information officer from the St. Paul Fire Department confirmed that a person was transported from the Grand Casino Arena to a local hospital late on June 24 by Saint Paul Fire-EMS. Details about Richie’s health issue remain unspecified.
During his concert at the Grand Casino Arena, fans noticed Richie appear lightheaded while performing “Dancing on the Ceiling.” He took a seat on a platform, jokingly telling the crowd, “When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your a– down.” Richie then shifted to the piano and gave a seated performance of “Three Times a Lady.”
After stepping off stage, fans believed there was a brief intermission until they were informed of the show’s official cancellation nearly 40 minutes later.
