A middle school teacher in Kentucky has been charged with criminal offenses following allegations involving a student. Authorities have accused the teacher of conduct that transitioned from inappropriate to criminal.
Teacher Arrested
Sadie M. Flores, 25, residing in Mayfield, faced arrest last Friday. The charges include grooming a minor, classified as a Class D felony under a new Kentucky law, effective from July 15.
Conduct Under Investigation
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office reports that Flores, a staff member at Graves County Middle School, is alleged to have engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a minor student in the district. Authorities took Flores into custody after investigating the allegations.
The investigation was triggered when the allegations were reported to Graves County Schools. The school administrators promptly alerted the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, resulting in a criminal inquiry.
Investigation Details
The investigation involved the collection of electronic records and interviews, among other measures. Flores was questioned Friday afternoon before her arrest at around 3:30 p.m. She was initially held at the Graves County Restricted Custody Center before being moved to another county’s detention facility.
Ongoing Investigation
Sheriff Jon Hayden indicated that the investigation is still underway. Graves County Schools Superintendent Matt Madding noted that the district contacted law enforcement immediately upon learning of the allegations.
Madding stated, “District administration was made aware of an allegation involving a teacher at Graves County Middle School. School officials immediately reported this information to the Graves County Sheriff’s Department for investigation.”
While the investigation continues, Madding emphasized the district’s focus on student safety. He remarked, “We take any allegation involving the safety of a child or the professional conduct of an employee extremely seriously and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and the appropriate authorities.”
