Joy Behar caused a stir on “The View” when she unexpectedly kissed actor Anson Mount during Wednesday’s show. The incident left her co-hosts and the audience in shock.
Whoopi Goldberg introduced Mount, and as he approached the table, he greeted each host warmly. Upon reaching Behar, she kissed him on the lips, prompting laughter from her co-hosts, including Sunny Hostin.
After the kiss, Behar quipped, “You know something? I’m old, but I’m not dead.” Mount played along, responding, “That’s good, Joy, because I am.” Behar reminisced about Mount bringing her birthday flowers during a previous visit, noting that their dynamic had changed since. To which Mount replied, “Well, I got married.”
Behar addressed the on-air kiss on the “Behind the Table” podcast, explaining to “The View” producer Brian Teta, “I’ve been joking about Anson Mount’s name all morning, and then when he came out, I just felt like kissing him.” Teta asked if Behar’s husband, Steve Janowitz, had commented on the incident, to which she replied that he texted her, “Cut that out.”
During the show, Mount discussed his role in the “Star Trek” series, “Strange New Worlds.” He expressed wonder at his journey, sharing, “It was my make-believe game when I was a child. Not a day goes by without me wondering how I got to be in the captain’s chair.”
In a separate segment, the hosts discussed hearings about the Smithsonian Institution on Capitol Hill. Hostin argued that Republican opposition stemmed from the Trump administration’s avoidance of reparations for Black Americans. She contended, “Reparations reflect an attempt by the Trump administration to reshape national history, avoiding financial reparations for the generations of unpaid labor that built this country.”
She highlighted the lack of truth and reconciliation commissions for slavery in U.S. history, contrasting those for other historical injustices. “You cannot have true reconciliation or financial repair without addressing the truth,” Hostin asserted. “This country’s efforts to evade accountability are evident in their resistance to acknowledge and rectify past wrongs.”
