Joe Burrow’s Rib Popped Back Into Place During Game

NFL quarterbacks often face intense physical challenges during games. Early this season, several top quarterbacks have already encountered injuries from hard-hitting tackles. However, Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow experienced a unique situation where a hit might have improved his condition.

After Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, Burrow informed pass rusher Will Anderson Jr. that the Texans defense ‘popped my rib back into place.’ Burrow added his appreciation for the unintentional assistance. Anderson took Burrow’s comment as a joke, laughing alongside him, although Burrow was serious.

The NFL released footage on Tuesday showcasing a mic’d up Burrow recounting the incident to his teammates. Burrow mentioned, ‘One of those hits popped my rib back in place,’ while speaking to star receiver Ja’Marr Chase. Chase and others were surprised, prompting Burrow to confirm the story.

Burrow’s teammates speculated on the specific hit, suspecting Danielle Hunter’s tackle was responsible. Receiver Tee Higgins recalled Burrow getting up and exclaiming, ‘Aaaarrgghhh,’ followed by a noticeable improvement in his condition.

Burrow acknowledged an additional comment from a teammate saying Hunter ‘adjusted your whole back,’ linking it to his lingering back issue listed on the injury report before Week 2. Despite being questionable for that game, Burrow appeared fit to participate.

As the Bengals prepare for their upcoming match against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Burrow’s improved condition raises curiosity about his game status. Head coach Zac Taylor noted on Monday that Burrow emerged from the Texans game in ‘good’ shape. However, Burrow is not yet ready for a full week of practice.

Bengals fans can find reassurance knowing Burrow was not further injured by the physical challenges faced during the game.
