Stewart McLean, known for his role in “Virgin River,” was recently found dead. A close friend, Jeff Seymour, expressed concerns early on the morning McLean went missing. Seymour, also an acting coach, discussed his uneasy feeling with The Canadian Press when McLean failed to appear for a filming session.
“He was meticulous about everything, and missing the shoot was completely out of character,” Seymour stated. “I knew something was seriously wrong when he didn’t show up that Saturday.”
Stewart McLean’s case has transitioned from a missing persons investigation to a homicide case, as per police statements. Evidence gathered by investigators suggests McLean was a victim of homicide. “He was incredibly aware of his surroundings,” Seymour remarked. “I find it hard to understand how someone could catch him off guard.”
With eight years of friendship, Seymour noted that McLean was well-liked and had no known conflicts. “Everyone loved this guy. He wasn’t involved in anything shady or didn’t move in the wrong circles,” Seymour shared. “He enjoyed quiet time, reading at home in Squamish.”
A police press release on May 18 initiated this investigation after McLean was reported missing. It was noted he was last seen on May 15 at his home in Lions Bay. The Squamish Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) uncovered evidence leading them to believe McLean was killed.
“Squamish RCMP initiated an investigation and, through investigative efforts, uncovered evidence that led investigators to believe Mr. McLean was the victim of a homicide,” stated the press release.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over the investigation. A statement from IHIT to CBC News confirmed that McLean’s remains were found and identified. “Homicide investigators are working to analyze evidence and review footage to establish McLean’s timeline before May 15,” they reported.
