The Indianapolis Colts are stirring speculation ahead of the NFL trade deadline, particularly concerning their star running back, Jonathan Taylor. As rumors circulate, many wonder if the team might trade its premier offensive player to gather additional draft picks.
Despite the whispers, Taylor expressed he has not sought a trade. He reiterated his commitment to the Colts but acknowledged that such decisions are beyond his control. In a conversation with FOX59’s Mike Chappell, Taylor stated, “I haven’t heard anything. I can’t control that. I’m proud to wear the horseshoe, proud to be here. Circumstances may change, but I hope they won’t.”
The trade season began with a significant move from the Colts. Offensive guard Quenton Nelson was traded to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick. Following closely, DeForest Buckner was sent back to the San Francisco 49ers, the team that originally drafted him, for a 2027 fourth-round pick.
In the wake of these trades, reports emerged that wide receiver Josh Downs requested a transfer from Indianapolis. This coincided with the dismissal of GM Chris Ballard by owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon. Ballard’s decade-long term ended following a losing record of 72-82-1.
Amidst these changes, Taylor attempts to maintain focus on the field. Despite the buzz, he remains dedicated to supporting his team as they prepare for a crucial division game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Addressing the challenge, he emphasized rallying his teammates and executing an effective game plan.
Though reports suggest Irsay-Gordon is reluctant to move Taylor, having extended his contract by two years for $44 million, the dynamic nature of NFL trades keeps possibilities open. Teams often trade players shortly after signing extensions, as seen with other recent high-profile trades.
Head Coach Shane Steichen addressed queries about Taylor’s potential trade: “Those are hypothetical for now,” he assured. “JT’s part of our roster.” If the Colts do decide to trade Taylor, any acquiring team would gain one of the league’s top running backs. Taylor has exceeded 1,100 rushing yards in four out of six seasons and is on track this year with 587 yards and eight touchdowns across seven games.
