During his conversation with BBC Newsnight presenter Paddy O’Connell, Hunter struggled with emotion as he spoke about his father’s condition. He mentioned, “It’s really tough, Paddy, that’s the real answer.” He highlighted Joe Biden’s pivotal role within their family, saying, “My dad remains the center of our family, not just as a public figure, but as a personal anchor to each one of us, including his grandchildren and great-grandchild.” His love and admiration for his father were clear as he described Joe Biden as the family’s rock and support.
Hunter further commented on the painful reality of watching his father battle a condition that has spread and caused considerable discomfort. Despite the challenges, Joe Biden continues to be active and committed to his beliefs, demonstrating resilience even through pain.
“The only thing I say about my dad, about his health right now, is that I wish he would complain more. Because it’s not good,” Hunter stated.

Joe Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis came following urinary symptoms leading to the discovery of a nodule on his prostate. An announcement in May 2025 confirmed his prostate cancer diagnosis, characterized by a high Gleason score of 9, indicative of an aggressive form. Treatment has included radiation therapy and hormone therapy at the University of Pennsylvania’s Radiation Oncology clinic.
Jill Biden, in a recent podcast appearance, emphasized the severity and lifelong management his condition requires. She clarified that while treatable forms of prostate cancer exist, Joe Biden’s case involves metastasis to the bones, making it a chronic condition that will require continuous monitoring and testing every three months.

Hunter Biden on Pardon and Addiction
Hunter Biden also addressed the controversy surrounding the pardon granted by Joe Biden before leaving office. He acknowledged the criticism, asserting that while it was “not good” for his father’s legacy, the decision was based on protecting him from the new administration’s potential targeting. The pardon, issued in December 2024, absolved Hunter of a federal gun conviction and any federal charges during a decade span.
“What would you have thought of my dad if he did not do that for me,” Hunter questioned, highlighting the complexity of familial duty versus public scrutiny.
