Hugh Laurie Apologizes for Online Spat with ‘House’ Critic

Hugh Laurie admitted to being “slightly drunk” following an online exchange with a critic of his show “House.” The situation unfolded after British journalist Janet Murray shared a screenshot on social media, detailing her experience with Laurie regarding her review of the series. Laurie, who starred in “House” from 2004 to 2012, offered his apologies in a lengthy message.

“I’m sorry if people have been having a go at you because of my tweet. Not at all the plan. I was very slightly drunk and already upset about something that had nothing to do with you,” Laurie expressed.

Laurie added that he faced criticism as well, explaining his intent was to defend the show’s writers. In his apology, Laurie regretted referencing Bach, Kahlo, and Moore, suggesting he could have chosen a less controversial example by mentioning blues songs with similar chord structures.

Janet Murray described the trolling she faced following Laurie’s response as “fairly horrific.” She acknowledged Laurie’s apology and closed the discussion by saying she had “no hard feelings.” Their exchange began on June 6, when Murray posted her views on season 1 of “House.”

She mentioned the repetitive narrative of the show, which sparked Laurie’s response. He humorously highlighted past attempts to change the show’s format, pointing out the audience’s preference for the existing structure.

Hugh Laurie, an English actor renowned for his role as Dr. Gregory House, previously gained popularity alongside Stephen Fry in comedic roles. Laurie’s response to the episode critique and subsequent apology demonstrates the actor’s willingness to reflect and acknowledge his actions.
