The Tunnel to Towers Foundation continues to honor the legacy of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter who died heroically during the September 11, 2001 attacks. Founded by Siller’s family, it strives to support veterans, first responders, and their families nationwide.
The organization was inspired by Siller’s favorite quote, ‘While we have time, let us do good.’
Since its formation, Tunnel to Towers has gifted more than 1,700 mortgage-free homes to the families of fallen service members and first responders. This includes homes for disabled veterans and first responders. Additionally, over 20,000 homeless veterans have received housing assistance and support services. The foundation hosts numerous events nationwide to honor America’s heroes and preserve the memories of those who sacrificed their lives.
Frank Siller, CEO of Tunnel to Towers, cautioned in 2020 that America was close to forgetting the profound impact of 9/11. Concerns have grown with the rise of anti-American sentiment and claims trivializing or justifying the attacks.
Despite these challenges, Siller and the foundation remain determined to keep the memory alive. ‘Tunnel to Towers will never let that happen,’ he asserted.
Educational Initiatives and Exhibits
The Tunnel to Towers 9/11 Institute educates students from kindergarten through 12th grade about the heroism displayed on September 11 and the resilience of America’s spirit. A mobile 9/11 exhibit has visited nearly all 50 states and Canada.
This year, Tunnel to Towers unveiled ‘Steel Across America.’ A 16,000-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center traveled over 10,500 miles to 35 stops across 21 states and the District of Columbia, concluding in New York City.
Anniversary Initiatives
To commemorate the 25th anniversary, Tunnel to Towers launched its 343 Homes Initiative. This program will provide 343 mortgage-free homes to the families of fallen service members and first responders. It also supports catastrophically injured service members across the country.
This builds on their existing ‘In the Line of Duty Programs,’ which have already delivered over 1,700 mortgage-free homes. Among these, more than 220 are custom Smart Homes, designed for full accessibility to support catastrophically injured veterans and first responders.
In a recent piece for Fox News, Frank Siller emphasized the importance of Stephen Siller’s legacy, motivating others to live well and do good. His story is a powerful reminder of the heroism witnessed on September 11.
