High School Football Teams’ Performances in Week 5

Nazareth vs. Providence

Nazareth secured a 17-7 victory over Providence in a Catholic League crossover game held in LaGrange Park. Despite Providence senior Broden Mackert’s effort, where he rushed for 119 yards on 18 carries including a 23-yard touchdown, four turnovers cost them the game. This was Providence’s first match after coach Tyler Plantz’s dismissal.

Lincoln-Way East vs. Sandburg

Lincoln-Way East triumphed with a 38-17 win against Sandburg. Senior receiver Jayden Cawthon overcame a misdirection during the first kickoff to later make a 54-yard return, setting up his own touchdown. His efforts were pivotal in sparking a comeback for the team in their SouthWest Suburban Conference match.

Batavia vs. St. Charles North

Batavia started strong against St. Charles North, with quarterback Michael Vander Luitgaren throwing a 58-yard touchdown to Brennon Zeng on the first play. After recovering their own onside kick, Batavia led 36-0 by the second quarter. Although St. Charles North rallied, narrowing the gap thanks to senior quarterback Landon Conroy, Batavia held their lead for a 55-35 victory.

West Aurora vs. Elgin

West Aurora dominated with a 60-0 win over Elgin in the Upstate Eight Conference. Senior quarterback Tyler Fecht, previously a backup, shined by completing 7 of 8 passes for 105 yards and three touchdowns, leading the team to a decisive victory.

Naperville North vs. Metea Valley

John Lyons of Naperville North, a former baseball hopeful, excelled as a linebacker, contributing significantly to a 41-3 win over Metea Valley. He recorded seven tackles and a sack, strengthening the Huskies’ defense in the DuPage Valley Conference match.

Wauconda vs. Grayslake North

Wauconda defeated previously unbeaten Grayslake North 48-14 in the Northern Lake County Conference. Sophomore Colton Zak was instrumental in the victory, collapsing the pocket and scoring his first varsity touchdown on a 12-yard run.

Andrean vs. Hobart

Andrean emerged victorious with a 28-10 win against Hobart. Wide receiver Stetson Sullivan made six catches for 79 yards and three touchdowns. Coach Chris Skinner praised the sophomore’s remarkable route-running abilities, highlighting his quickness and skill despite his size.
