Greg Gutfeld has taken a critical stance against affluent Democrats who express a desire to reside outside the United States. He references a Breitbart poll indicating that 55% harbor such thoughts. Gutfeld argues that wealthy individuals have the means to easily move abroad while maintaining their American ties. In contrast, most Americans face significant challenges if they consider permanent relocation.
Among the celebrities contemplating leaving the U.S. is musician Art Garfunkel. In an interview with The Guardian, the 84-year-old expressed his dissatisfaction with the country’s current political direction. Garfunkel stated, “I don’t like America’s position at all…I’m thinking of leaving the country, frankly.” His concerns span climate change, international relations, and other political issues.
“It’s real that the planet is getting warmer, that the water’s rising, that so many people are starving,” he remarked.
He also criticized former President Donald Trump’s military actions in Venezuela, questioning if taking over a country is now acceptable. Garfunkel expressed shock about these developments, yet remained hopeful for political change.
Garfunkel joins a list of American celebrities considering or having moved abroad in protest of Trump’s administration. Rosie O’Donnell relocated to Ireland following Trump’s election win in 2024, while director James Cameron plans a move to New Zealand, citing political dissatisfaction. Ellen DeGeneres and her wife have made their stay in the United Kingdom permanent due to similar reasons.
O’Donnell, while discussing her move, mentioned, “I read that Project 2025 and said, ‘Got to get myself out of here,’” highlighting her discontent with the current political climate.
According to Democratic strategist Kaivan Shroff, celebrity threats to leave the country are often met with skepticism. However, he points out that Garfunkel’s long-standing career and age make his comments noteworthy. Shroff suggests that Garfunkel’s inclination to move may be more of a political statement than a firm intention.
Despite potential disagreements over his politics, Shroff believes Garfunkel’s unease resonates with many. He interprets Garfunkel’s sentiments as a reflection of dissatisfaction with America’s perceived shift in global role and standards.
