Google is set to launch several new artificial intelligence tools, including an AI assistant designed to proactively assist users with tasks. At the recent Google I/O developer conference, the focus was on “Agentic” AI technology. Google’s AI agent, known as Gemini Spark, was among the many announcements made. This highlights Google’s significant investment in artificial intelligence through its parent company, Alphabet Inc., which has allocated substantial resources toward AI advancements.
Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, stated that the company has entered its “agentic Gemini era.” During the event, Pichai emphasized the potential of AI agents, indicating that while there are promising developments, achieving user-friendliness and security remains an ongoing effort. Alphabet Inc.’s financial reports show robust growth, with a capital expenditure projection reaching up to $190 billion.
Currently, Google Gemini app has seen a significant increase in monthly active users, jumping from 400 million last year to over 900 million this year. The latest version of the Gemini AI models – Gemini 3.5 – is being rolled out globally. Gemini 3.5 Flash, focused on speed and efficiency, is notably faster than its competitors. It is now the default model in the Gemini app and “AI mode” on Google Search. Another upcoming version, Gemini Pro 3.5, is expected soon, with a focus on enhanced safety and performance.
A new model, Gemini Omni, will allow users to create high-quality videos using input from text, images, and videos. Omni videos will be more realistic thanks to its understanding of kinetic forces and dynamics. Gemini Omni Flash, part of the Omni series, is now accessible through the Gemini app and Google Flow for subscribers at no additional cost. Videos made with Omni are equipped with Google’s SynthID watermarking for authenticity verification.
AI companies such as Open AI and others are set to incorporate SynthID in their content. Google has outlined plans for a new AI-powered wearable, Gemini Spark, capable of handling tasks autonomously. This includes routine jobs like analyzing meeting notes, emails, and compiling essential information into documents. Spark’s cloud-based design keeps it operating even when devices are off.
Google will offer beta access to the Gemini Spark agent for select testers, with a broader rollout to U.S. subscribers within its Google AI Ultra tier. Additionally, Google revealed audio and display smart glasses in partnership with Samsung and eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, with a release planned later in the year. These glasses enable users to interact with Gemini through audio and visual prompts.
An important update from the conference was related to AI mode in Google Search. The intelligent search box introduces longer query adaptation and AI-powered search suggestions, expanding beyond traditional autocomplete. Users can now use text, images, and videos simultaneously in their searches. This feature is being introduced worldwide.
The conference also unveiled Universal Cart, a tool designed to facilitate intelligent shopping across multiple platforms. It integrates with Google Search, Gemini, YouTube, and Gmail, providing users with the best deals and managing cart items through Gemini models.
Expect Universal Cart availability this summer in search and on the Gemini app, with further release on additional platforms to follow.
