In another incident, a gas station clerk from North Carolina, Robin Doyle, went missing from her Hickory home on July 28. The following day, deputies arrived and found her absent. Tragically, she was later discovered deceased in a wooded area of northeastern Catawba County. Authorities apprehended 54-year-old Leroy Allen Loper, charging him with felony murder, first-degree kidnapping, and concealment of death.
Loper, a registered sex offender, had previous felony convictions for first-degree kidnapping and second-degree forcible sexual offense. Law enforcement holds him at the Catawba County Detention Facility without bond.
Catawba County Sheriff Don Brown expressed sorrow for Doyle’s family, emphasizing the investigation’s ongoing nature. He stated, “We are deeply saddened for Robin Doyle’s family as they endure an unimaginable loss. The charges are a step forward, yet they won’t erase the pain. This case exemplifies pure malevolence, and the responsible parties will face full legal repercussions. Our investigation continues until justice is served.”
Community members remembered Doyle as a kind and generous individual. Corban Worley, who knew her, described, “She was one of the sweetest and most generous people you’ll ever meet. Her presence and smile are missed at the store.”
A tribute at the Propst Superette where Doyle worked read, “Robin, the world wasn’t ready for you to leave, but heaven needed you home.”
