Former Somali Dictator’s Son Residing in Ohio Amidst Calls for Investigation

Mohamed Siad Barre, the former Somali dictator known for his regime’s widespread human rights abuses, has family members residing in Ohio. His son, Ayanle Siad Barre, aged 61, has lived in the Columbus area, a region with a substantial Somali community.

Mohamed Siad Barre governed Somalia from 1969 until his overthrow in 1991. His leadership was marked by allegations of mass killings, torture, and abuses against the Isaaq clan, resulting in approximately 200,000 deaths.

His son, Ayanle, played a significant role during this period. Historian Mohamed Haji Ingiriis, affiliated with Oxford University, has described Ayanle as a vital figure within the government. However, these claims await independent verification.

“The United States will not be a safe haven for those who commit human rights violations,” stated Russell Hott, ICE official.

In related news, former Somali military commander Yusuf Abdi Ali was deported from the U.S. following involvement in torture and extrajudicial killings. An immigration judge in 2024 confirmed his actions during his tenure in the Somali National Army.

Ayanle Siad Barre has ventured into translation services, establishing Somal Global Services. His sister, Deka, together with her late husband, managed Vanguard Home Health Care, which accrued over $1.8 million in Medicare funding.

Although the company’s operations appear legitimate, the Barre family’s past is under scrutiny. Survivors of Barre’s regime are urging U.S. authorities to investigate the family’s role during the dictatorship.

While these allegations do not prove Ayanle Barre’s or other family members’ involvement in wrongdoing, the calls for investigation highlight the lingering impact of the dictatorship.

Attempts by Fox News Digital to obtain comments from Ayanle Siad Barre remain unsuccessful, with governmental entities not immediately responding to inquiries.
