Former aides to President Obama, now hosting the podcast “Pod Save America,” made controversial remarks about President Donald Trump’s health. During an episode, co-host Jon Favreau read a question from the audience asking, “‘Is there anyone that can stop this orange piece of s—?!!!'” referring to Trump. The hosts discussed the question candidly.
Tommy Vietor, a former Obama aide, responded, “Iran’s doing a pretty good job so far.” Favreau added, “The answer is no,” regarding stopping Trump. Vietor continued with, “Heart disease has always got a shot,” suggesting natural causes might eventually impact Trump.
Jon Lovett, who also worked under the Obama administration, noted, “The hardness of the veins sort of gets us all in the end.” The conversation took a lighthearted tone despite the morbid topic.
Dan Pfeiffer, another former Obama official, questioned, “Then what happens? We then get real jobs?” Favreau replied, “Probably,” adding more humor to the discussion.
The remarks drew criticism from some public figures. Theo Wold, a former Trump administration member, commented that these exchanges show a lack of shared societal standards. He expressed concern about public discussions on a president’s mortality.
Morgan Murphy, once a Pentagon press secretary, noted that the co-hosts bet on which factor might befall Trump first without hesitation. He felt this reflects a broader attitude shift among Democrats.
Many criticize the way such discussions are handled, especially after attempts on Trump’s life. Morgan Murphy added that there’s a historical context for respecting those in authority, referencing how scripture calls for prayer for leaders.
The podcast and its hosts continue to face scrutiny for their approach to discussing political figures like President Trump.
