A former NFL player, who was part of the New England Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX victory, has died by suicide. Jordan Devey’s family confirmed the tragic news in a statement shared on Thursday.
The family announcement, made through a GoFundMe campaign, expressed the emotional and challenging period they are now facing. The family stated that the suicide has left them to navigate a heartbreaking time.
Recently, Devey had served as a coach at Eagle High School in Idaho. The GoFundMe page described him as a cherished member of the community, celebrated for his commitment to helping others. He was known for his roles as a dedicated husband to Linsey and a loving father to their four children. It highlighted his extensive volunteer work as a coach for his children’s teams and the athletes at Eagle High School, where he was seen as a mentor and friend. His community involvement extended to his church, providing support and friendship to those in need.
His family fills the walls of their home with memories of joys, struggles, and triumphs, but his absence leaves a profound void,his widow Linsey shared on Instagram, commemorating what would have been their 15th wedding anniversary. She described him as their hero and shared sentiments of love and the painful absence felt by the family.
Jordan Devey had not been active on social media since June. In his NFL career, he started on the practice squad for the Baltimore Ravens before joining the Patriots in 2014, where he won the Super Bowl. His career included time with the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders, and Buffalo Bills. He played in 44 games, starting 21 of them.
Devey stands unique in NFL history as the only player to have blocked for star quarterbacks Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen.
