Former CIA Director John Brennan Subpoenaed in Federal Investigation

Former CIA Director John Brennan received a subpoena to testify before a Florida grand jury next month. This relates to a Justice Department investigation into whether former law enforcement and intelligence officials conspired against former President Donald Trump. Brennan’s attorney, Ken Wainstein, revealed that prosecutors issued the subpoena last Thursday. Brennan is to appear on October 15 in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Wainstein stated the inquiry is a comprehensive criminal investigation. It examines whether governmental figures involved in Trump’s investigations over the past ten years plotted to infringe on Trump’s civil rights. Additionally, Brennan faces an unrelated investigation in Washington for allegedly lying to Congress in 2023. Brennan and his legal team have consistently denied this accusation.

The subpoena is part of a larger investigation that has recently seen significant leadership changes. The notice was issued the same day Joe diGenova, who was leading the probe, resigned unexpectedly. The Justice Department has yet to announce a replacement for diGenova. Kurt Olsen, an investigator on the team, remains involved. Olsen previously urged the Justice Department in 2020 to support Trump’s claims of a stolen election.

The subpoena was disclosed shortly before a court hearing in Washington. Brennan seeks a court order to keep all records related to the investigations targeting him. He argues these documents are crucial to contest any possible indictment, citing vindictive prosecution as a concern.
