Fernando Mendoza Balances NFL and Graduation Milestones

Fernando Mendoza, the top choice in the 2026 NFL Draft, recently showed his dedication to both career and education. He left the Las Vegas Raiders temporarily to attend a graduation ceremony. Mendoza celebrated at Cal’s MBA commencement, marking his completion of a business degree.

This move occurred despite missing Indiana’s commencement and a White House visit with his former Hoosiers teammates. Mendoza initially missed Cal’s undergraduate ceremony but was given a second chance during the MBA event thanks to Jenny Chatman, dean of the Haas School of Business. Chatman acknowledged Mendoza’s unique situation, applauding his job negotiations and commitment to both his degree and new job.

“We have one Haas undergraduate student who couldn’t make it to commencement on Wednesday. He used his Haas skills and coursework to negotiate an excellent job and an excellent comp package,” Chatman stated during the ceremony.

Fernando Mendoza, known for his achievements on the field, also stood out academically. As Mendoza walked across the stage, receiving his business administration and management degree, the audience erupted in cheers, honoring his dual accomplishments.

While at Indiana, Mendoza led the Hoosiers to an undefeated season and a national championship, establishing his status as a top quarterback. His skills attracted the attention of the Las Vegas Raiders, who selected him first overall in the draft. The Raiders aim to develop Mendoza, even as veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins remains part of the team.

Mendoza’s commitment to the Raiders prevented him from attending a White House celebration. However, he connected with President Donald Trump via a phone call, where Trump praised Mendoza’s choices and welcomed his NFL journey.

As Mendoza prepares for his future in the NFL, he remains committed to learning and growing within the Raiders organization. His experience exemplifies balancing professional commitments with personal achievements.
