Father Discusses Impact of Son’s Murder: Race Narrative and Healing

Jeff Metcalf, father of murdered teenager Austin Metcalf, has shared his thoughts on the recently surfaced evidence and the verdict in the trial of Karmelo Anthony, convicted of the murder.

Metcalf has criticized media figures for politicizing his son’s death by framing it as a racial narrative. He stresses the significance of evaluating individuals based on their character, rather than race. The family continues to process their grief, particularly Austin’s twin brother.

The media is accused of attempting to profit from Austin’s death. Jeff Metcalf describes them as seeking fame and clickbait, with little regard for the family’s pain.

Recent evidence has clarified what happened before and after the fatal stabbing incident in 2025. In the body camera footage, Karmelo Anthony admits to the crime upon arrest.

The trial attracted national attention, drawing diverse commentary and focusing on race-related issues. Jeff Metcalf responded to remarks made by Sunny Hostin on The View, where Hostin questioned why Anthony was not acquitted on self-defense grounds. Metcalf disagreed, suggesting Hostin is uninformed about the case, and offered to discuss the matter on her platform.

The trial’s racial focus disappointed Metcalf. From the outset, he urged against racial and political interpretations but acknowledges these were pursued by commentators.

Skin color is irrelevant, character matters. Metcalf emphasizes judging individuals based on their interactions with others, not on race.

Metcalf shared some empathy for Anthony during the trial, noting Anthony was left alone after his family departed following the guilty verdict.

He noted the absence of Anthony’s family during sentencing and victim impact statements, feeling sympathy for the young man left to face the judgment without support.

Jeff Metcalf confirms no apology or remorse has been expressed by Anthony’s family, reflecting on the absence of communication.

Metcalf fondly recalls Austin’s leadership and compassion, noting his supportive role to fellow teammates and younger students. Austin’s positive traits left a lasting impact.

The tragedy remains a burden for Metcalf and his family.
