A fatal rollover crash occurred early Saturday morning in Barrington Hills, resulting in one death, according to authorities. The incident took place around 2:20 a.m. near the intersection of Hills and Dales and Brinker roads, which were closed for eight hours.
The Barrington Hills police department reported that a blue Mercedes SUV, traveling at high speed, crashed into a lawn while heading north on Brinker Road. The vehicle rolled approximately 400 feet, hitting two trees and crossing a culvert before coming to rest near Hills and Dales Road.
One individual was ejected from the SUV, while two others, yet to be identified, were trapped and later rescued by cutting the vehicle’s roof. Local resident Zach Swiatek was awakened by the crash outside his home. He observed the SUV’s engine and transmission separated from the car. First responders arrived promptly, attending to those trapped inside and transporting them by ambulance.
Swiatek, who has lived on this road for a decade, noted that the narrow, shoulder-less road sees annual crashes. He highlighted speeding as the primary cause, along with icy conditions in winter. Swiatek remarked, “They had to be traveling at a high rate of speed because they drove through a tree and knocked it over.”
The tragic crash stands as a severe reminder of the dangers of speeding. Barrington Hills Police continue to investigate the circumstances. Swiatek expressed sympathy, stating, “This was a horrible accident, and my heart goes out to the people involved and their families. Huge loss today.”
